UNITEA takes great pride in leading the plantations in terms of energy efficiency and reduced carbon footprint.
Our Factories:
In the UNITEA factories, conscious effort has been made to ensure that we do our bit to conserve energy – this includes certain minor but efficient changes.
- Temperature control units have been installed for Exhaust Driers to reduce energy consumption, which will have a direct bearing on the cost of production.
- Steam heaters have been introduced into our manufacturing process instead of fire wood heaters, thus saving our forests.
- Lighting across our factories and plants has been upgraded to LED lights – again small but sure steps.
- Outdated turbines have either been replaced or upgraded to consumer less power (less hp). Zero waste is being produced from our factories.
Renewable Energy:
The Korakundah tea garden is blessed with a beautiful perennial water stream. UNITEA has leveraged the water flow by setting up a micro-hydel project that generates 60kw of power. This green and renewable energy supports our factory in tea production and any excess power generated is shared with our employees. We at UNITEA continue to look at alternate power sources that are renewable and sustainable.
