Rising from the ranks.
As in any tea estate, majority of the labour force are women. Plucking is extensively their domain. UNITE ensures that the important role women play is appropriately rewarded. Way back in 1974, quiet and unassuming Palaniamma, an outstanding plucker, made it into the history books by being the first woman in plantations to become a supervisor. She has since then moved onto a staff job. We are proud of such success stories.
